"Galactic"

A full milky may panorama over Half dome in Yosemite National Park. This image shows a little over 180 Degrees of this spectacular overlook. The original image consists of 15, 45 megapixel images to capture everything, giving it an impressively large image resolution. The final version displayed here has been downsized for web viewing, however you can still see many fine key details of this view with absolute sharpness.

Prominent in the center of this image is half dome, one of the most iconic peaks of the Yosemite Valley. Glowing just behind it is a natural phenomenon known as "Airglow" which is enhanced by the cameras sensitivity to such faint colors and light.

Just to the left you can see Andromeda, our closest neighboring galaxy. She makes an appearance in the northern hemisphere from time to time in the night sky.

to the right of Half dome you can see the famous Nevada falls, and the lower Vernal falls. It is hard to conceive how large this scene is from this image however Nevada falls is a towering 594', and half Dome stands 4,000 feet over Half dome village, which would reside a little below the base of the center tree in this image.
